Macbook Air - World’s Thinnest Laptop?
Jan 16th, 2008 by Shaun Carter
Steve Jobs unveiled Apple’s latest creation, the Macbook Air, which seems to be the world’s thinnest laptop measuring up at less than one inch in height.
I’ve never been a Mac user, except when I attended school. My school district used Macs exclusively except in select business computer classrooms.
The Macbook air is only .16 inches in height at its thinnest point. I would love to see one of these opened up and take a look at the hardware configuration. The thinness is just mind boggling and I’m sure the interior of the laptop is quite cramped and not easily upgradable. One feature this computer does not have is a CD or DVD drive, which Jobs says won’t be necessary because of the soon-to-come movie rental downloads available on iTunes.
The computer will sell for $1,799 and will be released in two weeks, although pre-orders are being taken right now. Personally, the lack of an optical drive is a deal-breaker for me, but to each his own. This computer will no doubt sell like hotcakes.
Steve Jobs also announced Apple’s introduction of movie rentals to be distributed via its iTunes store. Rentals will range from $2.99 to $3.99. I think that price point is too high considering I can rent new releases from my local video store for $2.60 and get another movie free.
